Huxley and Orwell walk into a bar…

17 Jan

If you want a vision of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face – forever.
George Orwell

Everyone who wants to do good for the human race always ends in universal bullying.
Aldous Huxley

In our age there is no such thing as ‘keeping out of politics.’ All issues are political issues, and politics itself is a mass of lies, evasions, folly, hatred and schizophrenia.
George Orwell

By simply not mentioning certain subjects, propagandists have influenced opinion much more effectively than they could have by the most eloquent denunciations. (He is talking to you, Fox News!)
Aldous Huxley

So much of left-wing thought is a kind of playing with fire by people who don’t even know that fire is hot.
George Orwell

If human beings were shown what they’re really like, they’d either kill one another as vermin, or hang themselves.
Aldous Huxley

The atom bombs are piling up in the factories, the police are prowling through the cities, the lies are streaming from the loudspeakers, but the earth is still going round the sun.
George Orwell

Men do not learn much from the lessons of history and that is the most important of all the lessons of history.
Aldous Huxley

The very concept of objective truth is fading out of the world. Lies will pass into history.
George Orwell

Most ignorance is vincible ignorance. We don’t know because we don’t want to know.
Aldous Huxley

War is a way of shattering to pieces… materials which might otherwise be used to make the masses too comfortable and… too intelligent.
George Orwell

If we, through our ignorance or apathy, allow our rights to be taken from us even a sliver at a time, Orwell’s vision of the future will come true.  If we, through our love of Bread and Circuses, allow our rights to be taken from us even a sliver of the time, Huxley’s vision of the future will come true.  Sadly, we are doing both.  I do not know what the future brings, but the only obvious outcomes are scary and bleak.  Please, for the love of humanity, educate yourselves, educate your children, read books, vote, think.  Do not let our freedom slowly fade away because the media did not send you a personalized memo on the rape of your rights.

On January 18, 2012, the web is standing up to Congress in defiance of H.R. 6231, or more commonly known as S.O.P.A. (Stop Online Piracy Act). Yes, Congress has “shelved” S.O.P.A.  But that traditionally, and historically, only means “we will look at it again when the public is distracted.”  If they pull a fast one on us, the backlash, not only to our personal freedoms but the implications of possible, and promised, international repercussions to our government’s audacity to surpass its own jurisdiction and infringe on the national sovereignty of the world for the benefit of stockholders and movie stars, could be severe.  Watch your government.  Call, write and/or email your Congressman.   Vote.  But most importantly, pay attention to the world around you.  Be part of that world.  Ignorance is never an excuse, if anything, ignorance is lethal.
